Jermuk Waterfall is located in the Vayots Dzor region of the Republic of Armenia, in Jermuk city, on the right tributary of the Jermuk River Arpa. The waterfall originates from springs and flows into the Arpa River from a height of 68 m. This miracle of nature, reminding loose hair, is called by people "Jraharsi Varser", which in Armenian means "Mermaid's Braids". There is a legend about this waterfall. They say that a long time ago there was a castle of a king, who had a beautiful daughter, on the place of today's waterfall, on the top of a cliff.

People from all over the world came to ask for the princess's hand, but they were refused: her heart belonged to a young, brave and handsome shepherd. Every day after midnight, the young princess threw the end of a long rope from her bedroom window in the castle into the gorge, along which the young shepherd climbed from the deep gorge to his beloved girl. Upon learning of this, the king became very angry and cursed his daughter.

According to the curse, if she dared to meet the shepherd again, she would turn into a mermaid and never leave the water. However, the princess disobeyed her father and, instead of a rope, dangled her long braids from the cliff to help her lover climb up to the castle. At that very moment, the king's cruel curse came true: the beautiful girl turned into a mermaid, and her beautiful braids falling into the gorge became a wonderful waterfall, which became known as "Mermaid's Braids".

You can get to the Jermuk Waterfall by any car.
