Lake Chumov is located in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia, 2.1 km away from Old (Hin) Martiros village, 4.7 km away from Martros village, at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level. There is a small island on the lake.
There is the rock-cut Church of Surb Astvatsatsin, also known as the Martirosats Monastery, in the vicinity of the lake. The church is located on the slope below the top of Mount Nazar (the height of the mountain is 2,446 m).
Old (Hin) Martiros village is a semi-abandoned village, whose history dates back to 1283. A cross-stone has been preserved in the village, on which You can see the date of its foundation. In the 1960s, the old village was recognized as uninhabitable because of landslide zone, and therefore in 1968 Martiros village was shifted 2 km to the east. The village is bordered by Zaritap from the north-east, Sers and Khndzorut from the south-west and by Nakhichevan from the south-east.
