El Alamein is a promising and rapidly developing resort on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, 300 km northwest of Cairo and 106 km west of Alexandria. This resort, which is also called the Egyptian Maldives, is located on the site of the ancient city Antiphrai built by the Romans.
El Alamein resort is still not very popular among tourists, but it has every chance of becoming a worthy alternative to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurgada. People come here for the azure sea, magnificent beaches and healing climate.
The city is gradually being built up with modern buildings and numerous recreational facilities, it has an opera house and two universities. There is a 14-km embankment passing through all the entertainment areas of El Alamein. In the New Alamein City district there are shops, restaurants, a cinema, a beach club and a large concert venue.
Stunning turquoise sea and white sandy beaches are El Alamein's main attractions. The historical war museum, dedicated to two major battles of the World War II, is one of the main sightseeing of El Alamein. Here you can see war memorials and a large mausoleum.
El Alamein's climate is hot, it is typical of most of the Middle East and North Africa. However, due to the cool sea breeze blowing from the Mediterranean, the heat is much easier to bear here as compared to other cities of Egypt.
