Lake Vishap (Lake Geghard, Tokhmahan gyol, Vanki gyol, Lake Vank) is located in the Kotayk region of Armenia, in the upper reaches of the Goght River, 9 km east of Geghard village, at an altitude of 2620 m above sea level. The area of the lake is 30 hectares. Lake Vishap is surrounded by high mountains Vishapasar and Azhdahak.
In 2008, Lake Vishap was included in the list of state natural monuments of the Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia.
There are two vishapakars (dragon stones), which are 2-3 thousand years old, not far from the lake. The height of one of them is 3.5 meters, the other stone is smaller. A stork is depicted on the dragon stone.
You can reach the lake by SUV or by foot (the offroad or hiking route is about 15 km, it is a difficult rocky road). The road leading to the lake passes through the Geghard gorge, from where a charming view opens up and the Geghard Monastery is visible.
